Are you a SPAMMER? Post Reply

Joel Cheesman's blog "Cheezhead" calls out an HR Vendor as a spammer in a recent post: http://www.cheezhead.com/2007/03/05/getthejob-spam/

Is Joel being fair in labeling this firm a SPAMMER?

Note: Read the comments too! This post offers an important lesson for anyone in marketing and sales.

I would not recommend anyone doing this because it is not going to be well received. I do not think it has anything to do with how good or bad business may or may not be at this company - just a sales rep trying to drum up some business.

Yes and no ... spam must be working for someone otherwise there would be none. I have found that the key is to not send spam with a sales pitch, but provide something useful. Whether this is a white paper or free assessment, the inital contact you have with a prospect should not be a sales pitch.

I think it's bad business and foolish on the part of GetTheJob and any other company that uses this method. The bad feelings that they generate are going to spread wider and further than any business that they get from it.

With sales you need to focus on both creating/preserving your good reputation and eliminating/minimizing your bad reputation.

I doubt that spamming someone's contact us page is going to get enough (if any) business to be worth it.

The good news is that they definately got some exposure because Joel Cheesman' blog is very well read :-) Maybe they'll get some business out of it.
