Trending Topics in HR This Week: Workplace Violence, Social Media Recruiting, Baby Boomer
Workplace violence is an ongoing issue; however, with the anniversary of 9/11 this week, the popular blogtalkradio show and #TChat by Talent Culture decided to address the issue of workplace violence and preparedness – Workplace Violence: Myth and Reality #TChat Preview. With the horrific events of 9/11 happening at the beginning of the workday, and targeting people at their place of employment, the show discusses having a plan in place to be prepared for violence – whether it’s on a large scale, or between two people. Social media recruiting is consistently a popular topic being discussed and debated. This week it’s trending up a bit as Jobvite released results of their social media recruiting survey last week. Here’s a recap of the results– LinkedIn Dominates Social Media Sourcing and Recruiting. And this Onrec opinion piece by Irina Nagy looks at the state of job boards in light of the growth of social media in recruiting – Are job boards being outdone by social media? Not really.
Generational differences in the workplace are written about regularly and this week the topic of baby boomer is trending up. A recent study by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation reveals Baby Boomers Are Surpassing Gen-Y As Entrepreneurs. And another study by EY, formerly Ernst & Young, reveals some generational insights that can help managers understand who they are managing – Here Are the Strengths and Weaknesses of Millennials, Gen X and Boomers.
